NDA Govt could have recruited two million public sector jobs each year since 2014. Scope has bn there. But it squandered a great opportunity.

B. Opportunity missed

Governance deficit in India is due to deployment of fewer government employees at Local, State and Central Govt levels. Fewer hands result in delay resulting in inefficient economy and breeding corruption.

India has 16 public sector employees for every 1000 population compared to China (57), USA.(77), Brazil (111), France (114) and Norway (159)

To improve governance to a measurable way, India could have increased the average to 24 per 1000 population during 2014-19 i. e increase of 50%. It works out 150 cr * 8/1000 i.e 1.2 cr jobs in 5 years. 2.4 million public sector jobs every year. Even half would have worked out a million public sector jobs every year during 2014-19.

To make the number 40 per thousand population India could have recruited addl 16 public sector employees per thousand population = 150 cr *16/1000 i. e 2.4 crore jobs in 5 years. 4.8 million public sector jobs eachvyear between 2019-24. Even half would have worked out to 2 million public sector jobs per year.

Alas, during the decade (2014-24) scope for additional public sector employment of 36 million helping roughly 16 crore population (taking 3.5 dependents per employee) with steady income had bn there and better governance.

As these new recruits are under nps, no pension burden. 
New ethos. They would have outnumber the old guard. New administrative era we missed.

Financing the new public sector employment :

Limiting freebies to bare minimum
Imprivising tax collections
Curbing rent seeking and plugging leackages.


NDA Government has no heart in governance. It has bn chaging power at the expense of public good. It has to give way. It has to be botted out to a new government which put more hands at public service.

Failure of NDA government has resulted in loss to 8 crore OBC, SC and ST people in the last decade or so only in public employment. 50% employees recruited would havs bn from these communities

Metta Rama Rao, IRS (vrs) Former Principle Commissioner Customs & CGST  India needs a Second National Capital till a green field New National Capital is built in the geographical centre of India. Dr B R Ambedkar in his book "Thoughts on Linguistic States" published in 1955 has written a full Chaper on "Second Capital for India" While discussing at length justfying the need to go for a second capital has clearly preferred Hyderabad over Kolkata and Mumbai. He did not consider Nagpur. Main reason he brought out in his book is the need to bridge north and south of the country. He recommended Hyderabad as second capital of India. Why we should consider Dr Ambedkar's recommendation: Delhi was central to British India. After partition, Delhi is situated at one corner of India.
